Welcome to the Groundswell Water Sustainability Platform. This unique system is capable of tracking groundwater extractions from water supply wells and determining whether their pumping rates are sustainable. More specifically, the platform can protect from Groundwater Basin Overdraft, Stream Depletion and Seawater Intrusion by instantly alerting designated water supply managers when unsustainable conditions are pending and when they will occur unless the extraction rates are modified. Responses (e.g., extraction schedule modification) can also be automated. The system responds to dynamic environmental conditions by automatically updating key model parameters (e.g., water levels) as they are observed. This platform represents a pragmatic solution to key challenges threatening water supply sustainability, and could play a significant role in long term habitat protection as well as economic viability of water resources.
